Is Jay-Z on Social Media Hiding in Plain Sight?

The man, the myth, the legend... regularly active on social media. Yay or Nay?

I’m sure it will become more and more obvious as my blog continues, but Jay-Z is one of my favorite artists. If you’re familiar with Jay-Z, you know his social media presence is very limited. But what if it wasn’t? What if, just what if Shawn Carter was pulling a Keyser Soze? (If you’ve never seen The Usual Suspects, I highly recommend it. Fantastic movie.)

I know he has a Twitter account that he occasionally uses, but I’m talking about something more than that. Much more. Let me tell you about one of my favorite accounts to follow. It’s the Instagram account “aintnojigga”. If I was Jay-Z and I wanted to make a social media account for myself I certainly would NOT name it that. That sounds like someone who’s kind of obsessed with him. That sounds like someone who wants to be him. What a perfect hiding place, and for all intents and purposes it has seemed to work brilliantly. This account doesn’t even have 200k followers, but it is BY FAR THEE account that any fan of Jay should be following.

It has pictures. Yes, some are pictures you’d find on gossip blogs and entertainment sites. But there are also Real. Pictures. Pictures you’ve never seen anywhere else. Pictures that didn't have to have the 50x zoom lens. Pictures that would have to be taken by someone standing right beside him, right behind him. Pictures that may have started out “Hey let’s take this flick real quick.” Pictures that he’d have to personally approve to be posted. Pictures that you’d see and think to yourself “Oh to be a fly on the wall!!!” That’s not where it ends. The pictures don’t just have clever captions or brief descriptions. They have stories…

… with background…

… and detail…

Paragraphs that are sometimes so long they have to be broken down into multiple comments. Yes it could be someone else, but I believe it’s HIM. I absolutely believe it’s his account. He may not be personally posting, but he’s having someone do it on his behalf. He may not be driving, but he’s planning the trip and giving directions.
